Refunds

“Where’s my refund?” We get this question all the time, so we know you’re thinking about it. And why wouldn’t you – the IRS owes you money, so where is it?? The IRS says you should expect your refund between six to eight weeks from the date they receive your return. With the development of electronic filing, however, many of our clients have received their refunds in about half this time. The IRS issues more than 9 out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days when e-filed. Folks who electronically file their return and provide direct deposit information are seeing their refunds even sooner. While you may be concerned about providing your banking information, it is actually a more secure way to receive your refund. This is because there is zero chance of a lost check and the refund can be issued more quickly. Just be sure you have provided correct banking information because inaccurate numbers can result in a delay.

Even with all of these technological advancements designed to aid in increasing refund processing time, your refund may still be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example, if the name or social security number listed on your return does not exactly match IRS records, your refund may be delayed.

To check the status of an expected refund, the IRS provides the following tracking tool: https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp. To check on the status of your Georgia refund, please use this link: https://gtc.dor.ga.gov/_/#1

You will need the primary taxpayer’s social security number, filing status, and amount of refund. If the website does not provide you with an answer, you can call 800-829-1040 (or 877.423.6711for Georgia) and a representative should be able to assist you.

Most importantly, don't fall for scams about your refund. Per the IRS:“IRS never initiates email.” They will never contact you by phone either. If you have received something from the IRS regarding your refund via email or telephone, it is a scam. The following link provides additional information regarding this information and gives details about how to report such an occurrence: http:/www.irs.gov/newsroom/. We have experienced a surge in our clients receiving "fake" threatening IRS phone calls. Please let us know if you receive one of these calls as 9.9 times out of 10 times is a scam.
